- Description
- Hullabaloo U is a year-long, 0 credit hour, first-year experience course designed to create a welcoming and affirming environment for each new student. Students will develop self‐efficacy, self‐awareness, and a sense of purpose; become actively engaged in the learning environment inside and outside of the classroom; and become socially integrated within the university community. Each section of Hullabaloo U is limited to no more than 25 students and led by a faculty/staff instructor and an undergraduate peer mentor. A Hullabaloo U Instructor is a Texas A&M University employee who is committed to first-year student success and persistence. Instructors serve as educators, resources, and representatives of Texas A&M University. Instructors will work closely with their undergraduate peer mentor to create dynamic learning opportunities for their students. Hullabaloo U Instructors will receive a $500 professional development stipend per semester, but most importantly, will be a touchpoint for new students every week throughout their first year. Instructors will equip new students for success at Texas A&M and be an integral part of their transition to college.
- Qualifications
- -Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree and have worked at Texas A&M for a minimum of one year -Status as a Texas A&M University employee -Completion of required training workshops -Approval by the instructor’s supervisor or department head -Student centered educational philosophy -Willingness to incorporate engaging pedagogy that involves students in the learning process and socially integrates students with their classmates and peer mentor (ex. Small-group work/collaborative learning) -Capable of relating to and developing classroom rapport with a diverse group of students -Genuine interest in advising and mentoring new students -Commitment to general education and development of the student as a whole person -Awareness of campus resources and student-support services
